Public field benchmark: HFTS-1 and MSEEL

Two of the most heavily published hydraulic-fracturing field experiments — the HFTS-1 through-fracture cores in the Midland basin and the MSEEL MIP-3H fibre measurements in the Marcellus — run through this simulator in one click. Every number the field crews measured sits beside the number the simulator produced for the same stage, with the tolerance the original paper supports and the constants the run used printed at the bottom. Nothing here is hidden or hand-picked.

How to read this

Field is what was measured downhole: fracture height and propped reach read off recovered core, half-length read from fibre. This app is what the simulator produced for that same stage from the published pumping schedule and rock properties, solved as a whole pad so neighbouring stages press on each other.

Some pairings are marked different measurement: a core samples the propped part of a fracture while the simulator reports the whole hydraulic extent, and a microseismic cloud is an envelope around the fracture rather than the fracture itself. Those rows are shown as a ratio and are never counted as accuracy — turning them into a percentage error would flatter or damn the simulator for the wrong reason.
